He said the role played by the international community in mitigating the impact of the devastating Aceh tsunami in 2004 might serve as an important example of success in addressing natural disasters.

He further said Southeast Asia had often been used as a transit point for human trafficking networks. Therefore, regional cooperation became relevant to address a recurrence of similar case in the future.

He said ASEAN member states were previously known as being sensitive to security issues.

"We must realize that non-traditional security issue has now become common concern. It is not merely the business of one country with other country," he said.

The non-traditional security issue had very often become the focus of discussion at a number of ASEAN`s regional meetings as well as at meetings between ASEAN and its dialog partners, he said.

In this connection, the one-time Indonesian ambassador to the US praised India for its initiative to raise the non-traditional security issue at the dialog forum this time.(*)
