The raid against the illegal immigrants was conducted in 12 areas of Megamendung and Cisarua sub-districts, Bambang said.
More than 100 personnel conducted the raid and searched a number of houses and villas at the Puncak tourist resort.
The 149 illegal immigrants, 83 of them from Afghanistan, failed to produce any papers issued by UNHCR and the United Nations that declared them as asylum seekers, Bambang Catur said.
According to Bambang, his office has planned to take the illegal immigrants to the Immigration Directorate to verify their individual data, adding that immigrants who had overstayed will be deported.
Earlier, police also detained a total of 47 illegal immigrants who were on their way to the Cipatujah beach, Tasikmalaya, West Java, to take a boat that was to take them to Australia.
"Police intercepted them during their journey by bus from Jakarta to the Cipatujah beach from where they would continue their journey to their final destination, Australia," a police source said.
